How a whiplash injury led me to CranioSacral Therapy — and to two decades of helping others out of pain.
Thank you for taking a moment to let me introduce myself, and tell you why I was drawn to this work in the first place.
I was born and raised in Oregon and studied Russian Literature at Reed College in Portland. When people asked what I would do with that degree, I used to say, “Anything I want — because now I know how to think through a problem.” Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine I’d spend my days thinking through the origins and solutions to riddles in the body.
Then in 2002 I was injured in a car accident, and found myself struggling with the pain of a whiplash injury. After six months of chiropractic, massage and physical therapy, the pain was only getting worse. I was frustrated, but determined. My physical therapist suggested CranioSacral Therapy. I’d never heard of it, but I was open — and to my delight, after six sessions the pain was gone. I was hooked.
I began taking CranioSacral classes through the Upledger Institute in 2003, and practiced on anyone who would let me. I loved the work, and I was moved by it — the sessions changed how I approached my own life, and gave me the greatest gift of all: self-discovery. To practice, I trained and became licensed in massage therapy at the Swedish Institute in New York, and went on to study Visceral Manipulation with the Barral Institute and Lymphatic Drainage with the Chikly Health Institute.
Today my family and I live in Nosara, Costa Rica, where my practice is focused on blending CranioSacral Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage and Visceral Manipulation to help manage pain and injuries. Since every person and condition is different, every session is unique. Whatever your reason for trying bodywork, my goal is to meet you where you are in your process. It is a true honor to do this work, and I look forward to assisting you on your way toward wellness.
Be well,
Tatiana
